Proposal photography is one of my favorite services to offer. It’s the beginning of the wedding story, full of excitement, and feels a little like being a secret agent. I meet with people to plan surprise proposals, scout locations, advise on what to do, where to stand, and more. I’ll be your guide through the proposal process from start to finish!
How to Propose
Before we get to talking about proposal photography packages, you may need to think about a proposal plan. I’m happy to point you in the right direction! I’ve written a guide on how to propose to give you all kinds of things to think about before you get down on one knee. Once you have an idea of location, timing, and how you’d like to propose, then we can chat about your proposal photography needs!
Hiring A Proposal Planner
If you’re thinking about a grand gesture that might need a little extra coordination, you can actually hire a proposal planner! If you live in a rural area, there might not be planning services that specialize in proposals. But, wedding planners can help you out! Need flowers or candles set up in a remote location? A proposal planner has your back! While you’re distracting your partner with a day date and elaborate excuse to go on a drive in your best sundress, they can have everything ready for your big surprise.
Proposal Photography in Virginia
Photography has become an important part of the proposal magic. The split-second reaction when you ask your partner to marry you is unpredictable, emotional, and one of a kind. They will love having photos of that moment! This is one they’ll want to relive as much as possible. To find a proposal photographer, you’ll want to look for someone who specializes in weddings and engagements. They have lots of experience with candid moments and couples, and have likely photographed a few proposals before. You can start looking for a photographer as soon as you’ve decided on a date, or at least time frame, for your proposal.
Here at Photography by Jo, I offer proposal photography both individually and as a part of the larger wedding photography experience. Proposal photography packages in Virginia begin at $490, and I offer engagement announcement portraits, albums to commemorate the experience, and add-ons like floral options for your proposal. For proposals outside of Virginia, I travel to photograph proposals, and rates vary by location. If you’re interested in proposal photography, contact me for more information.
Booking Your Proposal Photographer
The process for booking your proposal is simple! After you submit the contact form, I’ll reach out to confirm the details like date, location, and time needed. I will send over a proposal for photography services along with a contract and invoice. First, you’ll sign the contract and pay the retainer invoice. The remainder will be due two weeks prior to the big day.
What happens after the proposal is photographed?
After you propose, we’ll take a few engagement portraits if you both are feeling up for it. Within 48 hours, I’ll deliver a few highlight images to you to enjoy while I work on perfecting the rest of your gallery. Once the gallery is ready, I’ll reveal your proposal photographs in full and we can select print options!
They said Yes! … What happens next?
When the proposal is all said and done, you’ll have a wedding to plan! Not sure how to start planning your wedding? Well, that’s normal. And you may want to wait a little while! Enjoy being engaged–there’s no rush. When you’re ready, check out this guide on what to do after you get engaged.
