Real Wedding Photography for Real People

The Moments You Most Want to Remember
Won’t Be On a List

How do we know? Because we’ve photographed hundreds of weddings, and the most loved photos were never from a Pinterest board. They were the result of impromptu decisions, irrepressible laughter, and intimate moments that weren’t shoehorned into a timeline.

Because the best photos happen when you are present.

Everything about our wedding photography experience is designed to help you feel comfortable. We want you to be so immersed in the joy of your wedding that you forget we’re here. With over eleven years of experience, a heart for making people feel at home, and a skill for documenting the delightfully unexpected, we will preserve your wedding day memories in a way that feels genuine and authentic.

A bride in a white dress kisses an elderly woman in a colorful dress on the cheek at a decorated table with candles, lemons, and greenery; a man sits between them, smiling. A stone mantel with ferns is in the background.
A bride and groom embrace outdoors, the groom in a blue suit and the bride in a white dress with a long veil. They stand closely together, eyes closed, with greenery in the background.
A person wearing a beige suit jacket, yellow tie, and floral-patterned vest holds their lapel. A vivid florals boutonniere is pinned on the jacket, perfect for a church wedding or an elegant high tea reception. A ring is visible on their finger.
A sunlit table set for a meal with elegant plates, crystal glasses, gold cutlery, white candles in brass holders, and a floral centerpiece on a blue and white tablecloth. A napkin is draped over each plate.

Before we take a single photo, we listen.

You’re not just hiring a photographer. You’re gaining a calming presence, an emotional translator, and a keeper of the moments that matter most. We take pride in getting to know each of our couples. How else can we deliver a gallery of photos that capture what you value the most?

Everything we do—from building your custom proposal to designing your wedding album—is about you.

Frequently asked Questions

We are based in Charlottesville. As a small team of photographers, we have a few different places we call home, but Charlottesville Virginia is our main market. Most of our weddings are in Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, Lexington, D.C., and Richmond, but we travel all throughout the country and even internationally! If you’re planning a destination wedding and want to bring us with you, we would love to hear from you.

Yes, we cover both photography and videography for your wedding. Beyond that, we can round out your wedding media coverage with content creation, guest portraits, and a photobooth. That said, we know some couples already have vendors they love for these extras, so there’s no obligation to bundle everything with us. Build your day with whoever feels right to you.

We begin booking weddings over a year in advance. Jo takes fewer weddings per year and therefore has more limited availability. The team is more flexible. If you know your wedding date, don’t hesitate to contact us!

We specialize in authentic, true-to-life photography. No dark filters. No orange skin tones. We do our best to match the colors of your final wedding photos to the way everything looked and felt on the day of your wedding.

We have a tried and true customization process. After you inquire, we will hop on a call to discuss your vision and needs for your wedding. We listen closely to what you want and present you with options hand-picked for you.

Rather than leave couples boxed into packages that don’t quite fit their needs, we customize options for each couple. Once you’ve given us some information to start a quote for you, you’ll receive back usually 3 to 4 options tailored to your needs. For each option, we’ll outline the number of hours of wedding coverage with the lead photographer, number of hours with a second photographer, engagement session options, heirloom albums (included, but with a range of options) and printed product options, and additional services like videography, rehearsal dinner and welcome party coverage, content creation, guest portraits, or photo booth options. The amount of options we offer is pretty extensive, which is why we create a custom proposal just for you, instead of having an overwhelming a-la-carte menu.

Starting prices are realistic minimums for basic wedding photography coverage for the average wedding. They are not some misleading baseline that only includes a couple hours of coverage. They are meant to help you determine affordability, but there is still flexibility in what we can include at the starting price point. For instance, half day coverage with two photographers and full day coverage with one photographer are similar in price. Videography pricing is separate and in-addition to photography.

Yes, of course! Engagement sessions are included in your custom wedding proposal, unless you truly wish to forgo that experience. We highly encourage every couple to have an engagement session, since it gives us a chance to get to know each other and lets you practice being in front of the camera in a low-stress environment.

We value our couples’ comfort and enjoyment above everything else. We get to know you before your wedding, so it feels like you’re being photographed by a friend. We laugh, exchange stories, and create an environment that is fun and stress-free. This is your wedding. It should be fun, comfortable, and enjoyable. We will do everything we can to make sure it feels that way.

The number of images will depend on the scope of the wedding and extent of the coverage. Couples can expect 300 to 1,000+ finalized digital images, or a minimum of 40 per hour of wedding coverage.

We will pre-schedule a gallery reveal with you so you know the exact date and time you’ll be receiving your wedding photos back! You will see sneak peeks in 1 to 4 days after your session or wedding. Our turnaround time for full galleries is 8 to 12 weeks, but we will have an exact appointment scheduled with you. No need to chase us down for an update. This process keeps us organized and you fully in-the-know.

In many cases, the wedding day requires a second photographer to cover the day well, so we will provide the option for one. As a small team, we have the luxury of having in-house second photographers, so your experience and quality remain top notch. Some weddings do not call for a team of two, and we will price out options for you that exclude the second photographer on a case-by-case basis. This is a great example of why custom proposals work so well for everyone!

Your experience will be the same, just with a different person behind the camera! Some couples feel strongly about working with the owner and lead photographer, so the option is available to secure Jo personally for your wedding. However, as a small team, we are fully aligned on process, style, approach, and the client experience. You can still expect Jo to be managing your full experience for our team weddings. Jo also handles editing and quality control for each image, ensuring you have a consistent gallery. Unlike with large teams and corporations, you will have many months to meet your lead photographer and build a relationship. The main difference between working with the team and working with Jo is the price point, since Jo takes on fewer weddings each year.

We take micro weddings and elopements just as seriously with the same candid-heavy, story-driven approach. However, the scope and cost is generally much smaller. Sometimes, micro weddings are just as long and require the same effort as large weddings, so that’s not a blanket rule. Reach out to us to discuss any specific questions, and we can give you an idea of how we’d approach your micro wedding or elopement.

We work with bad weather to the extent that we are able with our gear. For light to moderate rain, we can protect our cameras with plastic covers and utilize umbrellas. The quality of the photos may be impacted, as rain often comes with humidity and foggy lenses. If we are to move indoors during rainy weddings, we come equipped with flash and lighting to make up for any lighting challenges. If the weather becomes severe or unsafe, we may need to cease working to protect our equipment and ourselves. These instances are outlined in our contract, and we can discuss any specifics you are concerned about.

We have several options for payment plans. Most couples pay a $2,000 retainer to book their wedding date and then the remainder 60 days before the wedding. We do offer pay-in-full discounts if that is something you are able to do and would prefer the savings. Other extended payment plans are custom made upon request.

Yes, we are licensed and insured for both liability and gear. We are able to offer proof of insurance to wedding venues upon request. We do typically provide this much closer to the wedding date, as COIs expire.

Most fees are included in the price you see. There are no travel fees for Virginia, DC, and some nearby locations in border states like MD and WV. There are no charges for paying with credit cards. We do have to charge sales and use tax on our deliverables.

We will make recommendations based on past experiences for the vendors you are looking for. There is no formal, published list, but we love helping couples find the right team for their wedding and recommending vendors that we know will take great care of you. Please reach out if you need recommendations!

Do you have more questions? We want to hear them! We want you to feel 100% confident in your vendors, so we welcome any conversation you want to have.
