Equestrian Engagement Session at River’s Bend Ranch in Page County, Virginia

River’s Bend Ranch is one of those hidden gems in the Virginia mountains; tucked away in Page County with rolling hills, open pastures, and dozens of beautiful horses. It’s not only a working ranch, but also a welcoming place for experiences like guided horse time, trail rides, lessons, and even agritourism events, making it a dream setting for an equestrian engagement session. I mean, what could be better than engagement photos with horses? It’s every girl’s dream!

Choosing an equestrian engagement session experience

For Jessie and Joe, this spot couldn’t have been more fitting. Jessie grew up riding horses, and Joe often hunts on horseback, so incorporating that shared love into their engagement session felt perfectly natural. They wanted their photos to feel personal and meaningful… not just pretty portraits, but an experience that reflected who they are and what they love about life together outdoors.

From the start, their session felt more like a fun date than a photo shoot. They laughed as the horses playfully nibbled at them, brushed each other off between shots, and took in the incredible mountain views surrounding the ranch. Even shooting under the bright midday sun couldn’t take away from the beauty of the moment. Their connection and the setting did all the work!

We ended the day walking up the hill to the barn where River’s Bend Ranch also hosts weddings, pausing to watch the horses grazing below. Then came the grand finale: a “BookTok”-inspired steamy pose that turned into one of my favorite images of the session. It was the perfect ending to a day that felt adventurous, romantic, and so completely them.
