Old Town Alexandria Engagement Photos | Cassidy & Blake’s Cobblestone Sunset Session

Classic, romantic, and so full of color, that is Cassidy and Blake’s engagement session in Old Town Alexandria. If you are searching for the best engagement photo locations in Old Town Alexandria, this session is basically the highlight reel of your most photogenic stops, from downtown to waterfront!

We started on the cobblestone streets of Wales Alley and Prince Street, weaving through some of the oldest blocks in Alexandria. Honestly, this town might be one of the most versatile spots in Northern Virginia for engagement photos. The historic brick homes have everything, arched doorways, iron gates, charming stoops, and window boxes overflowing with flowers. Every corner is its own backdrop.

Choosing Old Town Alexandria

It wasn’t just a pretty location. Cassidy and Blake have history in Alexandria too! As they walked around, she shared where her mom used to work on that very street, and the location she attended her senior prom and took portraits by the water. It felt fitting that the next chapter of her life is celebrated there too.

Cassidy wore the prettiest sundress with blue floral print, and it was such a good choice. She told me beforehand that she has red hair and did not want it muted in editing, she wanted it to still look like her, vibrant and true to life. And can we talk about how good redheads look in blue? My own daughter is a redhead with the same pale skin and blue eyes, and blue is her best color too. Cassidy proved the theory beautifully.

Sunset on the waterfront

We made our way from downtown to the waterfront just as golden hour hit. They asked for a few photos on a bench, since they shared their first “I love you” on one, be still my heart. Then we headed down to the pier for sunset, and the sky turned the softest cotton candy pink and orange. Sailboats drifted by, a flock of birds swept past right on cue, and at one point a curious duck swam towards them and entertained us for a moment. Straight out of a movie.

Sessions like this remind me why I love what I do. Easy, effortless, and full of love, that is really all you need for gorgeous photos. If you are planning your own engagement session and want a location with history, color, and water views, Old Town Alexandria should be at the top of your list.
