Capacity and Layout
Reception Venue
The majority of events take place in the Grand Hall—a large banquet hall with neutral walls, a beautiful stone hearth, and wooden beams above perfect for hanging florals and greenery. The space comfortably seats 175 guests with room for a dance floor and quick access to the bar and restroom area. The hall is connected to a catering kitchen for easy dinner service.
Ceremony Location
The Grand Hall opens up to a covered patio area, which looks out onto the iconic overlook spot where most couples have their outdoor ceremony. Stone pavers mark the aisle for your wedding march, which conveniently prevents heels from sinking into the grass. Plus, they look stunning and go with any color scheme! You really can’t beat the ceremony views at the Seclusion.
Rain plan
In the case of rain, the plan will depend on your desired look, guest count, and staff’s availability to flip the reception space if needed. For smaller weddings, you may still be able to have a rainy ceremony outdoors under the covered patio. The guest count will determine if this is possible. Otherwise, the Grand Hall can host your ceremony in front of the stone hearth. In this case, you would need adequate staff to flip the space for the reception. You may need to allot additional time for this change.
Getting ready space
The bridal suite sits upstairs in a nook overlooking the Grand Hall. You can have your makeup done while you watch your wedding vision come to life! Don’t worry, the doors to the overlook close if you’d prefer privacy and separation from the reception space. The suite itself is pretty roomy and has lots of places to hang up dresses. There is a large bed in the center, which makes a great bridesmaids photo-op! With larger wedding parties, it can get a little cramped in the room. If you plan to have more than 6-8 people, you may find the space challenging if everyone is bringing bags and belongings.
For the other half of the wedding party, there is a space across the parking lot on the other side of the property. This allows you to all get ready on site without seeing each other beforehand. The interior of the second getting ready space is not super photogenic, but the exterior is great! For photo purposes, we’ll just step outside when it’s time for some getting ready photos.
Wedding Venue Aesthetic
The Seclusion is truly a one-of-a-kind Virginia wedding venue. Although elements of its build resemble a barn, I would hardly describe the venue as rustic or barn-like. There is also European-inspired ironwork and architecture throughout. It’s a combination of styles that doesn’t fit neatly in a box. Between the stonework, the beams, and the white walls, you have a fairly neutral canvas for your wedding. You can add any color palette and blend styles without feeling out of place. There’s a lot of opportunity here.
Wedding Cost at the Seclusion, Lexington, VA
The cost of a wedding at the Seclusion is going to be a bit higher than the surrounding venues. Many of the venues in the Lexington and central, southwest Virginia area are a bit rustic and lacking in accommodations that the Seclusion provides, so the additional cost is to be expected. The venue rental fee runs a range of $12,000 to $17,500 as of early 2024, depending on your wedding date and day of the week. If you want your wedding to feel like a luxury mountain vacation, then this is the spot for you. Even with the luxury service and accommodations, weddings at the Seclusion are by no means at the top of the budget range for Virginia weddings. You can expect your wedding cost to be moderately above Virginia averages.
Wedding Photography at The Seclusion
If you envision natural landscapes and chasing golden hour for your wedding portraits, then you’ll absolutely love your wedding photos at the Seclusion. Their landscaping is impeccable, the architecture is unique, and they have the best views in the valley. Even in the winter, the ice paints the far away mountain peaks, adding a little something extra to your wedding portraits. As mentioned above, even if it rains, we have lots of options for portraits areas.
I love photographing couples at the Seclusion because of the awesome variety we can capture quickly, without walking too far. Many of the other venues with great photogenic spots require you to walk long distances or take a four wheeler, which isn’t ideal in wedding attire. At the Seclusion, it’s all right there together.
