Top 25+ Wedding Venues in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley for Mountain Views

Searching for the right wedding venue takes so much time, especially in Virginia where there are hundreds of venue options. Venue websites don’t list all the details, there’s no comprehensive list, and there’s no good platform to compare capacity, price, style, and other features apples-to-apples. That’s why I started this Virginia wedding venue guide for my clients looking for beautiful outdoor wedding venues in central Virginia. Mountain views are one of the top requests I see couples seeking in scenic outdoor wedding venues in Virginia. Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley is famous for its mountain views! For this guide, we’re specifically going to touch on the top venues in the Shenandoah Valley with mountain views, mainly for wedding ceremony spaces.

As a wedding photographer, I love getting to work at super photogenic wedding venues. Golden hour in the valley? Gorgeous! I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley and have photographed weddings here for eight years now. Here are the best wedding venues with gorgeous mountain views in Virginia.

Sky Ridge Farm is one of central Virginia’s newest wedding venues. It features a modern white barn that seats 200. Their property has one of the best views in the valley! It is not your typical barn wedding venue, so if that’s not your aesthetic, don’t cross it off your list without looking! Conveniently, they have a large rental home nearby so your party can stay on site the entire weekend. They do book up fast! They already closed dates for next fall, and the spring is fairly full as well. I recommend reaching out at least a year in advance. Their rentals include the entire weekend, basic amenities, and even some vintage rental items, saving you money in those areas.

I am reaching out for pricing details and will update soon!

Wintergreen Resort Weddings – Roseland, Virginia

Wintergreen is a ski resort on Afton Mountain near the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway in Roseland, Virginia. The resort has ample flexibility to host weddings of many different sizes and styles. There are two overlooks and a terrace space that could be utilized for a scenic outdoor ceremony, several restaurants on property, and banquet halls that make great blank slates to set up a wedding reception. The resort offers many different cabins and rooms for lodging for both you and your guests.

One important thing to note about weddings at Wintergreen is that there is little to no cell service on the mountain. It’s best to utilize planners and vendors that are familiar with the lodge, the locations, and weddings at Wintergreen (like me!).

Reconstructed in 1927 and with 4,300 square feet of space, Red August Farm is full of vintage details and space for up to 300 guests. Located in Waynesboro, Virginia. For a rustic barn venue, they have some of the most versatile landscaping for photography and the perfect bridal suite. They offer full weekend rentals, allowing you to rehearse, setup, celebrate, then stay the night and tear down the next day. The owners are incredibly friendly, and you can even have your engagement session here! They get cherry blossoms in the spring, brilliant blooms in the summer, and the best fall foliage. For winter weddings, you can utilize the outdoor stone chimney for a cozy look. You really can’t go wrong with Red August Farm.

Cana Barn – Staunton, VA

This 90-year-old bank barn has been taken down, moved and rebuilt the same way it was before but with modern amenities. Located in Staunton, Virginia, this one of a kind barn also has a balcony and rooftop deck. The barn is also ADA accessible so that all persons can enjoy their visit. The exterior of our barn is slate blue, while the interior reveals the beauty of the original barn’s chestnut wood. Inside, we have air conditioning, heat, and a gorgeous fireplace. Outside, our ceremony space is wooded but close to the barn for the convenience of your guests. You have a built in Rain/Hurricane Plan if you are planning an outdoor wedding but the weather chooses not to cooperate. The barn’s capacity is 135 people, and rental packages start at $4,000.

Mountain View Farm – Mount Solon Virginia Wedding Venue

What would a list of venues with mountain views be without Mountain View Farm?! Just like the name implies, the views here live up to the hype. Located in August County in Mount Solon, VA, Mountain View Farm offers a barn-style reception venue that overlooks the valley, with the sun setting just outside the barn window. Imagine your first dance with that background!

Mountain View is on the smaller side, capping at about 100 guests. They are not climate controlled, so their season is typically mid March to mid November. They offer heaters during chilly fall days, but not full HVAC. I recently photographed a wedding with about 50 guests in 40 degree weather there. It was slightly chilly, but still a comfortable celebration!

Pricing is available if you reach out directly. I do love recommending this venue, as it’s just a few minutes down the road from me! I know my way around the space and would love to keep coming back.

King Family is one of my favorite wedding venues in the Shenandoah Valley. It offers as expansive and private location with gorgeous mountain views. Plus, their rain plan has some excellent options! You can’t go wrong with King Family Vineyards. Even on gloomy days, we can use the indoor and covered porch spaces for photography and get the light, bright, romantic images you’re looking for. They offer tables and chairs for 200 guests, two dressing suites, and an on-site manager with their rentals.

Pricing: The last published pricing for King Family Vineyards Weddings was 2022 pricing, which I’m sure will go up or be adjusted shortly. They offer seasonal pricing and different rates for weekdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The rental rate currently ranges $4,500 for off-season (December – March) Fridays to $10,500 for peak season Saturdays. Compared to similar quality and in-demand venues in our area, this is an incredible price.

PS – You can also have your engagement session at King Family Vineyards, even if you’re not getting married there!

Silver Fox Lavender Farm – Nellysford, VA

Nellysford wedding venue Silver Fox Lavender Farm in the fall

Silver Fox Lavender Farm is a functioning lavender farm and wedding venue in Nelson County, Virginia. Surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, Silver Fox gets some of the valley’s best sunsets, fall foliage, and spring and summer blooms. Although popular in spring and fall, it’s an all-weather venue! Silver Fox is one of the smaller venues in the area, a great mid-size option. Although the website states it seats 150 guests indoors, the layout of the reception space is a bit tight. My personal recommendation would be under 100 guests seated at tables.

Swannanoa Palace – Afton, Virginia

If you’re looking for mountain views with an ethereal vibe, Swannanoa Palace has hauntingly beautiful grounds, ornate architecture, and will make you feel like you’ve entered a fairy tale, or maybe a scene from The Great Gatsby. The castle-like palace sits isolated on top of Afton Mountain and includes a colonnade, lavishly overgrown gardens, and a perfect vista of the surrounding mountains and valleys. As the site is currently unoccupied and closed to the public, we also have the added benefit of complete privacy.

Showalter’s Orchard and Greenhouse – Harrisonburg Virginia Wedding Venue

Showalter’s Orchard and Greenhouse ceremony site – Photo by Photography by Jo

Want to say I do in front of one of Virginia’s “LOVE” signs, or directly in front of the rolling hills? Showalter’s Orchard has one of the best views around! Plus, the greenhouse is a photogenic, light-filled space for your reception. I just love shooting there! I rarely need to troubleshoot the light.

The one down side of Showalter’s is that it is on top of a hill… meaning there’s very little shade! It can get quite hot in the middle of summer. Beautiful portraits in the mid-day sun can be more challenging, but definitely doable. I want to be honest about the pros and cons of these venues, but this con isn’t so bad! Something to note if you’re getting married mid summer.

Showalter’s Orchard; typical ceremony location

Pricing: Weekend rental rates start at $5,300. Showalter’s is a smaller venue than many of the others here so far, but they don’t list capacity online. My guess based off of experience working in the space would be 100-150 people seated in the greenhouse area.
