What an awesome wedding to kick off the summer blog series! Today we’re celebrating the new Mr. and Mrs. Shaw, who were married March 25, 2017 at the Ballroom at Schindel-Rohrer and Ava Lounge below 28 South bar in the historic district of downtown Hagerstown, MD. As a photographer based in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia (wild and wonderful, ya’ll!), I get to serve couples and families from all over Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, as well as the good old West by God. While I’m a quick trip away from the D.C. and Baltimore metro areas, I love when I get an opportunity to work closer to home. This Hagerstown wedding had me reminiscing about my college intern days, when I lived on the very same street as the wedding venue in a tiny studio apartment with my husband (to-be, back then!) and two of our now three dogs.
Back to the newlyweds though!
Chelsey and I met at a bridal show hosted by Once Upon a Time Events, and connected immediately. Before she left, we had signed a contract and made engagement session plans. Talk about a girl that knows what she wants! We met up a few weeks later for their spring engagement session in the beautiful, historic, Harpers Ferry, WV, and she introduced me to her fiancé Adam. Chelsey is so vibrant, fun, outgoing, and silly; and Adam is definitely the quiet, steady, yin to her yang. They’re the perfect pair!
These two styled their wedding in honor of their honeymoon plans and after the city of love, Paris! The tables featured little Eiffel Tower pops that Chelsey made herself, and scented re-useable wooden flowers in beautiful hues of peach and navy. The tables were named after popular European cities, and that Eiffel tower theme made its way into tons of little details, like the aisle-front, seating chart, sweetheart table, cake-cutting utensils, and of course the cake topper! The cherry on top of all these beautiful details was the GORGEOUS ceremony lighting! A few hanging bistro lights goes a LONG way in making your ceremony look elegant and totally picturesque!
Thinking back on this wedding day, I’m left with two great impressions. First, this couple loves fiercely. The tears in Chelsey’s eyes when she saw her husband for the first time that day, the amount of hard work both families put into this wedding, the smile Adam gets when he’s holding his wife, and the kind words all their friends and family had to say about them were true testaments to the strength of their relationship. I am so thrilled I got to be a part of their big day!
Secondly, these guys know how to PARTY! I’ve gotta say, I was not expecting that from these two. But man, they are such a blast to be around! Their friends and family all bring out the best in each other too. They opened the windows of the Schindel-Rohrer Ballroom up and showed downtown Hagerstown what they were missing out on! What an amazing day!
Chelsey and Adam, thank you again for letting me help with your wedding day! I have such sweet memories from this experience. I hope you have a blessed marriage!!
